From the time of Pythagoras, more than 2,600 years ago, music has been played on glass in many different ways. In 1761, Benjamin Franklin created the glass armonica — an instrument that works on the same principle as running a moist finger around the rim of a wine glass.
Pythagoras also imagined the cosmos itself as music. He pictured each planet carried on a giant crystal sphere, and each sphere singing its own note. Together, these tones formed a great harmony — the legendary "Music of the Spheres."
William's album Music of the Spheres brings that vision to life. Composed and performed by William Zeitler (ZITE-ler) on the glass armonica, with harp, a chorus of wine glasses, and gentle percussion, Music of the Spheres guides the listener on a poetic journey through this ancient imagination of our planetary system — at once musical, mathematical, and mystical.
